Job summary

Ingredion in Indianapolis is seeking a motivated student for the R&D Plant-based Protein Intern role for Summer 2027. You will assist with evaluating plant-based protein ingredients and relate functionality to food and beverage applications, including in vitro digestibility as a proxy for protein quality.

You will work safely in a manufacturing setting, support safety and quality initiatives, assist with investigations and improvement projects, and help production scheduling with hourly

• Progress toward a Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, or related engineering field.
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
• Interpersonal, verbal and written technical communication skills (presentations, reports).
• Reliable transportation to facility each work day.

Responsibilities

• Ensure personal safety and safety of others in the plant.
• Support safety, environmental and quality initiatives; assist investigations and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with plant quality procedures and guidelines.
• Support productivity, production scheduling and remove obstacles for hourly workforce.
• Support maintenance requirements and cost control initiatives.
• Lead and participate in improvement projects and team coaching.

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious student to join our R&D team for summer 2027! As the R&D Plant-based Protein Intern, you will support progression of a research project related to plant-based protein ingredient characterization. You will have the opportunity to evaluate functional characteristics of new protein ingredients and relate functionality to food and beverage application utility. This work will also give you the opportunity to include verifying nutritional characteristics including in vitro digestibility as a proxy for protein quality determination!

What you will bring:

Pay Range: $22-26 USD/hr

Final base salary will be determined based on several factors which may include but are not limited to responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data and applicable bargaining agreement (if any).
