Job summary

Calpine is seeking a journey-level technician to ensure BESS systems are available and respond to alarms while performing plant rounds, inspections, and housekeeping. You will author and update SOPs, ERGs, and EHS policies, manage maintenance via work orders, and handle permits for safe work, with CMMS and DCS usage.

We require at least 5 years in instrument/electrical and control system applications, strong mechanical aptitude, and a valid driver’s license.

Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

The daily routine will consist of ensuring the BESS systems are fully available and charging/discharging per dispatch. Acknowledging and responding to alarms. Performing plant rounds, inspections, and general housekeeping. Authoring, reviewing and updating: Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Response Guides, EHS Policies, performing scheduled maintenance via assigned work orders, submitting daily availability declarations to scheduling coordinators, keeping the plant logbook, managing contractors, issuing & tracking permits for safe work, confined space, hot work and energized electrical work, review and update P&ID and electrical drawings. Preparing and hanging Lock Out Tag Out. De-energizing or re-energizing equipment fed from multiple AC and/or DC power sources, hanging temporary electrical grounds. Maintain site 125VDC backup batteries and chargers.

Maintains and repairs electrical equipment and instrumentation. Monitors, maintains, and repairs plant Distributed Control System (DCS). Maintain, calibrate and repair plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. Perform routine trouble shooting activities. Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to effectively accomplish required maintenance in and efficient and organized manner. Optimize plant preventative maintenance program to meet OEM recommendations, regulatory requirements, and corporate maintenance philosophy. Responsible for maintaining logs, manuals, records, blueprints and operating procedures in a neat and professional manner. Provide written reports on control system conditions when required. Incorporates safe behavior into all activities and consistently complies with all established safety and health policies and procedures, helps to identify and eliminate or actively manage risks in all work activities.

• Regularly provides on-the-job skills training to others in complex technical areas.

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma, degree from technical/vocational school or equivalent.
• Senior-level; minimum of 5 years' experience in instrument/electrical and control system applications.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with an advanced understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics.
• Experience with DCS programming and configuration
• Advanced certifications/licensures. Valid state driver's license

Salary Information

• Hourly Rate Range - $55.26 to $69.07/hour
