GEMCO, a fourth-generation, family-owned manufacturing company specializing in capital equipment, is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Co-Op to support operations and production coordination. This role is ideal for a student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with coursework or experience in Computer Science, data analysis, or systems thinking.
The Operations Coordinator Co-Op will work closely with engineering, operations, procurement, vendors, and shop-floor personnel to support material flow, production scheduling, and process efficiency. This position offers hands‑on exposure to real-world manufacturing operations, project management, ERP systems, and cross‑functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day departmental activities under the guidance of engineers and operations staff.
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and documentation related to projects and processes.
- Participate in team meetings, project reviews, and cross-functional discussions.
- Perform basic research and present findings to team members or supervisors.
- Maintain organized records, files, and reports in both digital and physical systems.
- Assist with preparing reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
- Communicate professionally with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Observe and support shop-floor or operational activities to gain hands‑on experience.
- Use standard software tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, project management systems, etc.).
- Leverage computer science or programming knowledge (e.g., data analysis, automation, reporting tools) to improve workflows and operational visibility.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or a recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Coursework or background in Computer Science, data analysis, or programming preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in manufacturing operations, capital equipment, and production environments.
- Experience or familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
- Experience with project management tools (Asana, Trello, etc.) is a plus.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must reside in New Jersey or within commuting distance of Middlesex, NJ.
