Job summary

Met Council in New York City seeks an Operations Administrator to serve as field coordinator for housing portfolio, coordinating repairs, compliance and vendor contracts. The role is office-based with frequent travel between properties.

You will oversee building operations, manage projects, ensure inspections, document procurement, and support cross-functional teams. 40 hours weekly, exempt, benefits and 403(b) offered.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with NYC agencies (HPD, DOB, FDNY) and local laws.

Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary:

The Operations Administrator serves as the primary field coordinator for Met Council's housing portfolio, responsible for coordination of repairs, local law compliance, inspections, vendor contracts and violation removal.

Please note: This is an office-based role requiring frequent travel between properties.

Principal Responsibilities:

Building Operations & Maintenance Oversight

  • Troubleshoot general operational concerns, identifying practical and cost-effective solutions.
  • Identify recurring maintenance or operational issues and recommend improvements to strengthen building performance and efficiency.
  • Support preventative maintenance efforts and overall building condition management.

Vendor Coordination & Project Oversight

  • Oversee repair, maintenance, and improvement projects, including obtaining proposals, coordinating vendors, monitoring progress, and ensuring quality completion.
  • Coordinate major repairs with the Managing Director of Housing.
  • Coordinate move-ins.
  • Ensure vendors are properly scheduled, supervised, and performing work in accordance with expectations.
  • Ensure timely and proper documentation of procurement of supplies and services.

Compliance & Inspections

  • Manage and track building violations across Met Council's properties, ensuring timely follow-up, corrective action, and resolution.
  • Identify conditions that may lead to violations and take proactive steps to address issues and support ongoing compliance.
  • Ensure timely completion of all required local law, elevator, boiler, and other required inspections, tests, and filings.
  • Stay current on applicable building regulations, local laws, and compliance requirements and communicate updates to relevant staff.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare regular status reports on violations, open issues, and resolution progress for senior leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records related to inspections, repairs, violations, vendor activity, and project status.
  • Work closely with internal staff and external partners to support ongoing building operations and address property-related needs.

Coordination & Support

  • Work closely with on-site staff, vendors, and external agencies to address operational needs and resolve building-related issues.
  • Provide conflict resolution as needed.
  • Support coordination of building access, vendor logistics, and operational activities across the portfolio.

Skill and Education:
  • 2-3 years of experience managing building violations and compliance across a portfolio of properties
  • Working knowledge of NYC regulatory agencies and requirements, including HPD, DOB, FDNY, and applicable local laws
  • Experience supporting preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and building-related projects (required)
  • Knowledge of building systems, maintenance workflows, and operational best practices (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Demands:
  • Required Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity and coordination of hand, eye and foot
  • Required Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs)
  • Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder, and lifting 5-25 pounds, pushing and pulling
  • Ability to safely navigate obstacles in active construction/renovation sites.
Special Requirements:
  • Ability to respond to building-related emergencies outside of standard business hours, as needed.
  • Frequent travel between properties across New York City.
Compensation:

$70,000 - $80,000 per year.
