Job description

Job Description

Job Description

In this role, you’ll facilitate risk assessments, support incident investigations, monitor fleet safety, and help maintain governance frameworks that align with regulatory requirements and operational objectives. You'll also play a key role in establishing, maintaining, and improving operational safety processes across multiple teams and geographic locations.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in system or operational safety and thrives in cross-functional environments. They combine analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive continuous improvements to safety processes.

As an Operations Safety Engineer, you'll:
  • Participate in Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) reviews to identify design, requirements, and hazards that require operational mitigations.
  • Conduct operational hazard assessments using methodologies such as FMEA, STPA, FTA, and bowtie analysis, while maintaining safety risk registers and mitigation plans.
  • Support root cause investigations for safety incidents, recommend corrective actions, and help ensure effective implementation.
  • Partner with engineering teams to evaluate the operational impact of system and software changes while supporting compliance with industry safety standards.
  • Monitor fleet safety metrics, including near misses, disengagements, and interventions, and help drive continuous feedback between operations and engineering teams.

Role specifics and target candidate profile
Ideal candidate profile

Nice to have: Background in standardizing safety practices across global operations, including documentation systems, training programs, or council governance. Direct experience with autonomous vehicle or ADAS testing operations. Familiarity with functional safety and autonomy standards (ISO 26262, UL 4600, SOTIF). Hands-on exposure to safety case development or audits. Prior experience building internal safety monitoring tools or incident tracking systems.

Daily tasks

Assess, influence design, and verify operational safety and readiness of our vehicles. You will facilitate risk assessments, participate in incident investigations, monitor fleet safety, and oversee governance frameworks that align with regulatory standards and customer expectations. Beyond immediate impact, this role will help ensure that operation safety processes are established, maintained and followed across Verticals and across geographic locations. Participate in HARA reviews and identify design, requirements, and hazards that would require operational mitigation dependency.

  • Risk Identification & Mitigation: Conduct operational hazard assessments (FMEA, STPA), maintain a live safety risk register, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Incident Response & Investigation: Support root-cause analyses of safety incidents, recommend corrective actions, and ensure follow-through.
  • System Safety Support: Support engineering to assess the impact of stack or system changes, aligning with industry operational safety standards.
  • Fleet Safety Monitoring: Track safety metrics in real time (e.g., near misses, disengagements, interventions), and close feedback loops between operations and engineering.
Required skills

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Experience with cross-functional working groups collaborations, ideally spanning multiple teams or geographies.
  • Background in System Safety or Operations Safety, ideally in autonomous vehicles, ADAS, robotics, or a similarly regulated/complex domain.
  • Strong knowledge of safety methodologies (FTA, FMEA, STPA, bowtie analysis) and ability to apply them in operational contexts.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills to influence engineering, policy, and frontline teams alike.
