Job summary

The Surgical Technologist at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY, serves as the primary scrub technologist, preparing, organizing, and managing instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure a safe, sterile operative field.

Responsibilities include maintaining sterile technique, assisting with draping, passing instruments, counts, preparing dressings, and orienting new staff. 40 hours/week with day/evening/night shifts; pay range $28.05–$34.17 per hour is offered.

Qualifications

• Graduated from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program and obtain certification within 12 months.
• Graduated from an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Qualify under Grandfathering Clause with 1 year surgical technologist experience (2010–2014).
• Qualify under Hard-to-Fill Clause with certification within 24 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a minimum of 15 Continuing Medical Education hours annually.
• Prepare and check instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
• Set up and maintain sterile field, follow aseptic techniques.
• Assist with patient draping and ensure proper attire of the team.
• Pass instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedures.
• Perform sponge and sharp counts with the circulating nurse.
• Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.
• Support specialty services and stock OR rooms as needed.
• Prepare sterile dressings and assist with postoperative care.
• Help orient new staff and contribute to unit goals.

Education

CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program

Nursing degree (Practical Nursing)

Grandfathering Clause – 1 year experience in healthcare facility (2010-2014)

Hard-to-Fill Clause – certification within 24 months of hire
