Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Miami Beach is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech to assist in surgical procedures while maintaining a safe and sterile environment. Ideal candidates will have surgical technician certification and experience in various surgical disciplines. Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience within healthcare environment preferred.
  • Demonstrates competence in at least 1 major service.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in position and transferring of patients.
  • Prepares, maintains, and monitors sterile set-up.
  • Checks functionality of equipment before the procedure.
  • Ensures sterile field is maintained.
  • Adheres to personal protective equipment protocols.
  • Identifies specimens when passing to the circulator.

Skills

Surgical Technician Certification preferred (NCCT, NBSTSA)
BLS Required

Certified/Non-Certified Surgical Tech Per Diem Operating Room

Position Responsibilities
  • Assists in position and transferring of patients.
  • Prepares, maintains, and monitors sterile set-up.
  • Dispose of linens, gloves, and sharps in appropriate containers.
  • Checks the functionality of equipment and instruments before the procedure.
  • Notifies the charge nurse and core desk about any broken equipment or instruments.
  • Ensures the sterile field is maintained until dressings are applied, x-rays are completed, and/or the patient has left the room.
  • Points out break in sterile technique of self and/or team members to the RN circulator immediately.
  • Ensures all contaminated items are managed according to infection control protocols, placing them in designated red bags or linen bins.
  • Replace equipment and supplies used intra-operatively ensuring that they are in good working order.
  • Insures completeness of instruments trays before and after case. Removes all instruments from sterile drapes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper care and handling of specialty instruments.
  • Establish and maintain a neutral zone when passing sharps on the sterile field to prevent exposure/injury to self and others.
  • Adheres to personal protective equipment protocols at all times. Wear eye protection when scrubbed at the field.
  • Identifies and labels all medication on back table.
  • Inspects sterile packages, containers, and trays for integrity prior to placing on sterile field.
  • Check case supplies according to surgeon’s preference list.
  • Maintains current CPR status and surgical technician certification.
  • Assists surgical services assistants with room turnover by disposing of surgical debris in biohazard bags.
  • Identifies specimens verbally when passing them off to the circulator.
  • Facilitates and monitors patient safety by providing a safe environment.
  • Removes and put away unused supplies and sutures after each use.
  • Demonstrates competence and specialize in at least 1 major service, demonstrating competency, willingness and flexibility to work in other services as needed.
  • Demonstrates willingness to precept as needed.
  • All other duties as related to job.
Qualifications
  • Surgical Technician Certification preferred (NCCT, NBSTSA)
  • BLS Required
  • Graduate from an Accredited Program Required
  • High School Diploma
  • 5-7 years of experience within healthcare environment preferred. Competent in General, Gynecological, Urology, Orthopedic and, Vascular Surgery preferred.
