UPMC is seeking an OR Surgical Specialist who is a Registered Nurse and a key member of the care delivery team in the Operating Room. The role involves managing complex surgical procedures, aligning with physicians, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes across the care continuum.

The OR Surgical Specialist works to anticipate the needs of the patient and surgical team by understanding procedures and surgeon preferences, while collaborating with staff and service line clinicians to support

Responsibilities

• Utilization of preference cards, knowledge, and experience to know procedures and surgeon preferences to anticipate the needs of the patient and surgical team (in the scrub role and circulator role)
• Help with lunches when not in staffing
• Resource procurement/allocation
• Utilize specialty knowledge/expertise to facilitate communication/collaboration between staff, surgeons, and service line clinicians (e.g., preference card updates, checking case carts, etc.)
• Performs scrub role (requirement for RNs hired on or after July 1, 2023).
• Participates in decision-making activities related to evaluating and acquiring surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Collaborates with other health care professionals in the development of surgical budgetary requirements.
• Demonstrates skills in organizing and coordinating the effective use of personnel and materials.
• Develops, organizes, and delivers continuing education topics and courses.

The OR Surgical Specialist is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. OR Surgical Specialist is responsible for Operating Room responsibilities as detailed herein. The OR Surgical Specialist works on complex surgical procedures in the Operating Room. The OR Surgical Specialist establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

Responsibilities:
