Job summary

North Mississippi Health Services is seeking a skilled Operating Room Technician to support surgical teams in a fast-paced hospital setting, ensuring smooth procedures.

You will maintain sterile technique, prepare supplies, and function as primary scrub person, passing instruments and assisting surgeons alongside R.N. staff.

This role emphasizes patient safety, accurate counts, and readiness for next cases, with adherence to NMHS/NMMC policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

• Assists surgeon with sterile technique and instrument handling
• Instrument passing and surgical sponge/needle management

Responsibilities

• Uses procedure preference lists
• Selects & arranges supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures
• Maintains sterile set for operation(s)
• Assists surgeon by supervised RN duties as primary scrub person
• Passes instruments, sponges, sutures, catheters, drains and dressings
• Performs sponge, needle and instrument counts as specified by policy/procedure
• Assumes care of specimen until turned over to Registered Nurse
• Protects patients from injury and contamination of sterile field
• Restocks supplies
• Straightens operating room for next use
• Must take primary call duties for their specialty
• Attends required in-services and educational programs
• Complies with Local/State/Federal policies and guidelines

• Assists surgeon(s) by performing supervised (R.N.) duties
• Primary scrub person
• Passing instruments, sponges, sutures, catheters, drains and dressings
• Performs sponge, needle and instrument counts as specified by policy/procedure
• Assumes care of specimen until turned over to Registered Nurse Patient Advocate:
• Protects patients from potential injury and contamination of sterile field Communication/Record-Keeping:
• Restocks supplies

• Must be able to take primary call duties for their specialty (as assigned) Education:
• Attends required in-services, annual review and educational programs Regulatory:
