Job summary

Dignity Health - Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, CA is seeking an Operating Room Technician to support surgical teams under RN supervision. You will help maintain sterility, pass instruments, and ensure safe, efficient OR function during procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• 1 year full-time central service tech experience.
• 6 months in processing and assembling surgical instruments.
• Experience waiver possible with CST externship at Sequoia Hospital.
• 1 year general transcription experience.
• 2 years general secretary experience.
• 3–5 years healthcare industry experience.
• Certified Central Service Technician on hire.
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician on hire.
• Cert Sterile Processing Dist Tech on hire.
• Experience in EKG interpretation and billing systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously.
• Operate, clean and maintain equipment.
• Collect, process and sterilize articles from all areas including Operating Room on a priority basis.
• Serve as SPD liaison with physicians offices and instrument vendors by obtaining special requests prior to elective surgery and assuring instruments are prepared and available as needed.
• With computer-based lists, inspect, maintain, assemble, and pick OR instruments and sets, coordinating with OR schedule and staff.
• Run and monitor biological tests for Sterrad sterilizers.

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As our Operating Room Tech, you will be a vital member of the healthcare team, providing technical and supportive services in the Operating Room under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Supervisor/Clinical Coordinator.

Every day you will access or distribute drugs, needles, or syringes to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as per hospital policy. Your role ensures seamless and safe OR function, supporting surgical procedures and maintaining sterility.

To be successful in this role, you will be required to have great attention to detail, strong surgical and sterile technique knowledge, excellent teamwork, and adherence to all policies.

• Ensures a professional and responsive atmosphere by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously. Refers to each individual by name when appropriate. Screens individuals by requesting to see identification or visitor pass.
• Operates, cleans and maintains equipment.
• Collects, processes and sterilizes articles from all areas including Operating Room on a priority basis.
• Serves as SPD liaison with physicians offices and Instrument Vendors by obtaining special requests prior to elective surgery and assuring that required instruments are prepared and available as needed.
• With the aid of computer based lists, inspects, maintains, assembles, and picks Operating Room instruments and sets, coordinating activities with Operation Room Surgical Schedule and OR Staff.
• Runs and monitors the biological test for the stream and Sterrad (low temperature) sterilizers.

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Graduate or GED General Studies
• One year of full time experience as a central service technician
• Six months experience in processing and assembly of surgical instruments.
• Experience requirement may be waived for individuals who have successfully completed a Central Services Technician (CST) externship at Sequoia Hospital.
• One year experience in general transcription required. Two years general secretary experience and
• Minimum of 3-5 years combined experience in healthcare industry and
• Certified and Registered Central Service Technician, upon hire or
• Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Supervisor, upon hire or
• Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Tech, upon hire or
• Cert Sterile Processing Dist Tech, upon hire

Preferred

• Experience/training in EKG interpretation preferred. Experience in billing systems preferred. Experience in event coordination preferred.
