A Brief Overview
- Full‑time, rotating shifts in the Operating Room at the Philadelphia Campus.
- Required: At least one (1) year RN experience.
- Required: Completion of a Periop 101 program.
- Required: At least one (1) year OR Circulating experience.
- Preferred: At least one (1) year OR Scrub experience.
- Preferred: Prior experience in pediatrics or area of specialty.
The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care. Care is delivered through RN leadership for patient care within the framework of family‑centered care.
What You Will Do
- Clinical Practice
- Follows the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care.
- Gathers and synthesizes assessment data to determine the patient/family plan of care, share relevant data with the care team, and delegate tasks.
- Recognizes or seeks resources when clinical changes indicate patient deterioration; utilizes the CAT team when appropriate.
- Collaborates with patient, family, and multidisciplinary team to coordinate all facets of patient care.
- Develops, implements, and/or revises the patient’s plan of care on admission and during hospitalization.
- Consistently follows evidence‑based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures.
- Recognizes and addresses ethical dilemmas and/or moral distress, seeking resources to resolve situations.
- Demonstrates competence in teaching patients/families and progresses toward expert educator status.
- Evaluates and documents the care provided on each assigned shift.
- Accountable for rapid adoption and implementation of clinical practice changes.
- Communication
- Documents evaluation of nursing interventions and outcomes of care per hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
- Consistently follows safe hand‑off practices.
- Utilizes and exemplifies safety behaviors for error prevention; identifies potential safety concerns; communicates with unit leadership; enters safety nets when applicable.
- Employs effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques and empathic listening skills.
- Encourages patient/family self‑advocacy.

- Demonstrates effective teamwork as a member of the interdisciplinary care team, fostering a culture of respect.
- Addresses disrespectful collaboration that may impact patient care or create non‑collaborative relationships; seeks resources to resolve incivility.
- Actively participates in interdisciplinary patient care rounds and/or meetings and makes recommendations to the plan of care that reflect nursing goals and interventions.

Education Qualifications
- Technical Diploma Nursing (required)
- Bachelor’s Degree Nursing (preferred)
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year RN experience (required).
- Prior experience in pediatrics or area of specialty (preferred).

Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – upon hire (required).
- Nursing Temporary Practice Permit (Pennsylvania) – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – upon hire (required).
- Registered Nurse (New Jersey) – New Jersey State Licensing Board – upon hire (required).
- Nursing Temporary Practice Permit (New Jersey) – New Jersey State Licensing Board – upon hire (required).
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – certified by an organization that requires hands‑on instructor‑led psychomotor skills verification (e.g., American Heart Association or Red Cross) – upon hire (required).

Salary Range
$47.15 – $56.72 hourly. Salary ranges are shown for full‑time jobs. Part‑time hires will be adjusted accordingly. At CHOP, we are committed to fair and transparent pay practices.
