Job summary

UCLA Health in Los Angeles is seeking an Operating Room Assistant to support patient care in the OR, transport specimens and equipment, and maintain cleanliness and sterility in the surgical environment.

The role requires at least 6 months of OR experience, knowledge of sanitation, ability to lift heavy weight, and English language skills; shift is on-site with a Monday-Friday 11:00 - 19:30 schedule at UCLA Health.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months OR assistant experience required.
• Basic knowledge of operating room sanitation.
• Physical ability to lift, push, and pull heavy weight.
• Knowledge of body mechanics principles.
• Knowledge of cleaning, sterilization, and disinfections of anesthesia materials, equipment and machines.
• Ability to read and interpret operational manuals and follow troubleshooting guidelines.
• Ability to read and speak English to obtain or provide information.
• Skill in setting priorities to complete work in a timely manner.
• Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision.
• Skill in performing under the stress of frequent interruptions and /or distractions.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with team members.
• Ability to improve existing skills by participating in various training programs.
• Ability to accept shift changes to meet the department’s needs.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties as OR Assistant including patient care and transport of blood products, specimens and equipment.
• Maintain equipment, environmental sanitation, restock supplies, clean soiled supplies, storing and distributing anesthesia support materials.
• Support customer service and departmental efficiencies; follow supervisor instructions.
• Cover multiple LOA/FMLA assignments with directives from organizational goals.
