Job summary

The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc. is seeking an Operating Room Assistant - Per Diem Rotating for the Boston campus. The role supports patient care in the OR, ensuring safety and assisting the surgical team during shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, transporting and positioning patients, and adhering to hospital procedures and identifiers to maintain quality and safety in a fast paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• 1 year Medical Office/Hospital/Managed Care experience preferred.
• 1 year Operating Room experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient/family focused care through cordial greetings and interactions with patients, families and hospital personnel.
• Provides hospital/unit orientation information for guests, patients and families.
• Demonstrates awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of departments and services.
• Transfers and assists in patient transfer while ensuring safety.
• Identifies patients using two approved identifiers.
• Ensures safety measures in patient transfer (bedrails, blankets, warmth).
• Communicates precautions for patients with special transfer requirements.

Job Summary

Operating Room Assistant - Per Diem Rotating - BWH OR Clinical Support

• Minimum four shifts per schedule required.
• At least 3 shifts per schedule must be evening/night/weekend/holiday.
• 1 major summer holiday and 1 major winter holiday required.

Responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining safety standards, and providing medical assistance in the operating room.

Essential Functions

• Promotes a philosophy of patient/family focused care through cordial greeting and interactions with patient, families and hospital personnel.
• Provides hospital/unit orientation information for guest, patients and families.
• Demonstrates an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, procedure areas and other patient services.
• Refers patients, families and others to appropriate resources.
• Independently transports and assists in the transfer of patients.
• Properly identifies patients utilizing 2 approved identifiers.
• Ensures safety and support measures in patient transfer (i.e. bedrails raised, patient covered with blanket and warm).
• Is aware of special precautions in transferring patients with precautions.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Must be able to comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies.
• Must be aware of proper body mechanics when assisting in patient transfer and lifting of heavy objects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with other health care members.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team.
• Must constantly be alert and attentive to progress of O.R. schedule to meet tight deadlines.
