Job summary

Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a seasoned Open Space Division manager to coordinate maintenance, construction projects and operations, and to oversee restoration and development of Open Space properties. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and timely delivery of projects across sites.

The candidate will work with multiple agencies, prepare budgets, supervise staff, and guide planning efforts for long-term forestry and land health programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, geology, or forestry range management.
  • Four years park or land management experience.
  • Two years supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, plan, supervise, and participate in maintenance activities, construction projects and operations of the Open Space Division.
  • Plan, coordinate, assign, review and evaluate staff and consultants working on restoration and development of capital projects.
  • Oversee open space restoration activities including forest health assessment and hazard mitigation.
  • Serve as liaison with boards, commissions and outside agencies; prepare staff reports and presentations.
  • Represent the Open Space Division to other divisions, departments, officials, agencies and the public.
  • Participate in development and administration of the division's annual budget and forecast staffing needs.
  • Manage daily operations, restore and maintenance project progression; ensure adherence to work orders and schedules.
  • Develop goals, policies, and priorities; implement resulting procedures.
  • Prepare Open Space proposals and bid documents; evaluate bids and oversee contract implementation.
  • Prepare cost estimates; determine program costs and budgets for assigned area.
  • Participate in staff selection, training, and performance management; enforce discipline as needed.
  • Coordinate long-term forestry planting plans and open space land health assessments.
  • Explain and defend division programs; negotiate and resolve sensitive issues.
