Job summary

Nebraska Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources is hiring a twelve-month, non-tenure track extension educator or extension instructor based in Columbus, NE. The position involves developing and delivering water and cropping systems extension programs and translating research into practical education for diverse audiences.

Depending on education, candidates may be hired as an instructor with progress toward a master’s degree.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in agronomy, crop science, plant sciences, or a closely related field (extension educator) or Bachelor’s degree with progress toward a Master’s.
• Demonstrated knowledge of production agriculture, cropping systems, water management, irrigation, and sustainability.
• Strong teaching, communication, and relationship-building skills to translate research into practical programming.
• Ability to develop and deliver educational programs, outreach activities, and content across formats (presentations, digital resources, social media).
• Ability to work collaboratively with producers, Extension specialists, industry partners, and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Develops and delivers proactive, innovative extension programs with significant reach and impact.
• Establishes a strong local and regional clientele base and programming portfolio.
• Collaborates with Extension specialists to fulfill duties and conduct applied research.
• Engages in multidisciplinary teams to translate research-based information.
• Supports Lead Educator roles and coordinates with local faculty to promote Extension opportunities.
• Some travel is required; must meet driver standards and have a valid license.
