Job Description

The Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology is seeking an Academic Hematologist (Open Rank) to work primarily in benign/classical Hematology. The position has a 2/8th appointment with the VA to provide clinical care for malignant hematology cases (Hodgkin's and non‑Hodgkin’s lymphoma) with and without fellows in clinic, take 3 weekend calls a year with fellows, and supervise fellows dealing with chemotherapy unit issues. It also involves work within the USF Hemophilia Treatment Center and opportunities for FDA‑approved gene‑therapy engagement, support from a 340B program, and collaboration with our clinical research team.

Additional academic responsibilities may include advising and mentoring students in scholarly projects, assessing educational activities, and serving on university‑wide, medical‑school, or departmental committees.

Responsibilities
  • Practice in an outpatient clinic with inpatient consults; lead outreach to improve outcomes in at‑risk patients.
  • Act as liaison between patients and community health providers (primary care physicians, internists, dentists, etc.).
  • Complete clinical obligations such as chart completion and patient follow‑up.
  • Provide education and training for medical students, residents, and fellows in Hematology and Medical Oncology, including precepting ambulatory clerkships.
  • Report to the Chair or appropriate higher‑level administrator at a State university.
  • Perform teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
  • Engage in academic advising and related activities.
  • Represent the university, college, or department as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution or equivalent specializational degree with demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • For Associate/Full Professor: must have produced creative work, peer‑reviewed publications, and recognized authority in the field.

Preferred

  • Full, unrestricted Florida Medical License (or foreign equivalent) and membership on the USF Health faculty practice plan.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Experience in an academic medical center, proven teaching or research track record.
  • 1‑3 years physician experience with benign hematology and experience in thrombosis/hemostasis preferred.
