University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a full-time Obstetric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to join our Obstetric Anesthesia Section in Aurora, CO. The role requires fellowship training in obstetric anesthesiology and board eligibility or equivalent certification.

The attending provides obstetric anesthesia care, mentors trainees, and participates in teaching and scholarly activities across affiliated hospitals.

Overview

University of Colorado Anschutz Department of Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Obstetric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to join our Obstetric Anesthesia Section. The chief responsibility of the department is to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients undergoing surgical operations, painful invasive procedures, and childbirth. The University of Colorado affiliated hospitals deliver top-tier anesthetic care as well as comprehensive perioperative care. The anesthesiologist provides specialized care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • The attending obstetric anesthesiologist administers care alone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified anesthesiologist assistants. When working alone, he/she/they examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders, confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manages the anesthetic period, and follows the patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.
  • Provide comprehensive anesthesia care for high-risk obstetric patients, including labor analgesia, managing perioperative care during obstetric procedures, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal maternal and fetal outcomes. Also provides solo obstetric and fetal anesthesia care at the Colorado Fetal Care Center, located at the Children\'s Hospital Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
  • Engage in clinical education and potential leadership roles in various academic and clinical settings. The position is full-time and will include clinical duties at University of Colorado School of Medicine affiliated hospitals.
  • Maintain strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative Medicine; experience in teaching Anesthesiology; fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesiology.
  • As an attending anesthesiologist, perform services in the operating room, labor and delivery area, radiology, and the outpatient procedure center, with coverage by one or more attendings at all times to provide services where safe.
  • Contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School, including preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction; contribute to the advancement of knowledge by clinical or laboratory research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor
  • All attending anesthesiologists must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
  • All are expected to be either board eligible or a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology, or to hold certification of foreign training recognized as equivalent.
  • Applicants must be fellowship-trained in obstetric anesthesiology.
Associate Professor
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
  • Board eligible or diplomat as above, or equivalent foreign training.
  • Must meet the School of Medicine requirements for Associate Professor rank. If hired at this rank, the candidate may be designated as Visiting and must submit a dossier to remove the visiting designation.
  • Applicants must be fellowship-trained in obstetric anesthesiology.
Professor
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
  • Board eligible or diplomat as above, or equivalent foreign training.
  • Must meet the School of Medicine requirements for Professor rank. If hired at Professor rank, the candidate may be designated Visiting Professor and must submit a dossier to remove the visiting designation.
  • Applicants must be fellowship-trained in obstetric anesthesiology.

Anticipated Pay Range: The base salary range has been established based on faculty rank and is intended to compensate for scheduled daily clinical work, Monday through Friday. The starting salary range for this position is the hiring range and for each rank:

  • Assistant Professor: $355,400
  • Associate Professor: $364,800
  • Professor: $373,200

The above salary ranges are base salary only and do not include variable compensation such as call and incentive pay. Total compensation includes leave, health plans and retirement contributions.
