Job summary

Piper Companies seeks a Vision Systems Engineer in Raleigh, NC for a permanent onsite role. You will drive machine vision improvements, analyze system performance, and develop software solutions for imaging and inspection platforms in fast-paced production environments.

The position emphasizes Python development, OpenCV usage, and hands-on camera/ optics knowledge to support innovation initiatives and system deployments across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with machine vision systems or industrial imaging technologies.
• Strong Python programming skills and the ability to independently develop and modify software solutions.
• Experience with OpenCV or similar image processing frameworks.
• Hands-on knowledge of machine vision cameras, lens configuration, image acquisition, and hardware troubleshooting.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and translate data into actionable business insights.

Responsibilities

• Assess and optimize existing vision systems, identifying opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and overall system performance.
• Design, develop, and maintain Python-based applications that interact with imaging hardware and support automated inspection processes.
• Gather, organize, and evaluate operational data to uncover trends and deliver recommendations for future enhancements.
• Troubleshoot machine vision hardware, cameras, optics, and network connectivity issues in production and field environments.
• Partner with engineering, operations, and technical teams to support innovation initiatives, system deployments, and continuous improvement efforts.
