Qualifications

  • Completion of a Minnesota-approved Nursing Assistant training program.
  • Current status in good standing on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.
  • Successful completion of a Minnesota-approved Trained Medication Aid training program and competency requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with residents, visitors, and team members.
  • Ability to read, understand, and accurately document information related to resident care and medication administration.
  • Successful completion of all required pre-employment screenings, including a Minnesota Department of Human Services background study and applicable exclusion checks.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and treatments delegated to a TMA in accordance with Minnesota regulations, facility policies, physician orders, and nursing direction.
  • Administer regularly scheduled medications authorized within the TMA scope of practice.
  • Assist with the administration of PRN medications as permitted by facility policy and nursing authorization.
  • Observe residents for medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, and changes in condition, and promptly report concerns to the licensed nurse.
  • Perform medication-related tasks, including obtaining vital signs and preparing medications for administration, as directed.
  • Accurately document medication administration and related observations in the electronic health record.
  • Verify medication records and follow established medication administration procedures.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulation, transfers, and dining assistance.
  • Support resident independence and resident-directed care whenever possible.
  • Assist with restorative nursing activities and programs as assigned.
  • Observe, document, and report changes in residents' physical, mental, emotional, behavioral, or skin condition.
  • Report complaints of pain, mobility changes, swallowing concerns, or other notable changes to licensed nursing staff.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to resident requests and call lights.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in accordance with facility requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses and other interdisciplinary team members regarding resident care needs and observations.
  • Report incidents, accidents, injuries, and safety concerns promptly and according to policy.
  • Follow infection prevention and control practices, including Standard Precautions.
  • Comply with all safety policies, OSHA standards, and facility procedures.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and safeguard protected health information.
  • Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, mistreatment, exploitation, or other concerns as required by law and facility policy.
  • Participate in required training, staff meetings, safety initiatives, and quality improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as directed.
