Job summary

SF Metalworks is seeking a Shop Technical Lead on-site in California to guide fabricators, welders, and CNC operators, ensuring quality, safety, and timely delivery. The role emphasizes hands-on leadership, mentorship, and process improvements on the shop floor.

You will read blueprints and CAD files, coordinate production priorities with Project Management and Installation teams, and uphold ISO 9000-style QA practices in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years in metal fabrication with 3+ years in leadership.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong welding and metal fabrication knowledge.
• Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, CAD files, and 2D/3D drawings.
• Experience leading a hands-on production team.
• Experience implementing and enforcing safety procedures.
• Experience with ISO 9000-type Quality Assurance program.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Dropbox, Slack, Monday.com for time tracking.
• Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced shop environment.
• Proven portfolio of completed metalwork and finishing.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and support fabricators, welders, CNC operators, and production staff.
• Provide on-the-floor coaching and guidance.
• Assign team members to projects based on priorities and needs.
• Conduct regular check-ins and identify training opportunities.
• Lead by example in craftsmanship, organization, safety, and professionalism.
• Review plans and shop drawings to understand how assemblies should be built.
• Track production progress and adjust priorities to keep projects moving.
• Maintain an organized and efficient shop floor.
• Coordinate with Project Management and Installation teams to support deliveries.
• Monitor shop capacity, schedules, and labor tracking.
• Provide hands-on fabrication support when needed.
• Read and interpret blueprints, CAD files, and technical drawings.
• Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and provide practical solutions.
• Ensure finished products meet project specs and quality standards.
• Perform hands-on quality checks and maintain high standards for fit and finish.
