Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an experienced Microsystem Hardware Design and Measurement Engineer to work onsite in the Emerging Computing Hardware team. The role focuses on research in quantum computing, neuromorphic and AI/ML‑driven approaches, influencing materials and device integration for next‑gen computing hardware.

You will tackle device dynamics, measurements, and control systems while collaborating with internal Sandia groups and external partners to advance DOE

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
• PhD in Physics, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or relevant science or engineering field is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Solve near‑ and long‑term material and processing problems with emerging computing hardware, including but not limited to superconductor and semiconductor‑based quantum systems, as well as CMOS hardware.
• Develop an understanding of device dynamics, small circuits based on those devices, or architectures incorporating a range of devices.
• Develop and implement novel control systems and measurements.
• Collaborate within Sandia and across the external R&D community, including academic and industry partners, in Quantum Information Science (QIS) and other emerging computing fields.
