Job summary

Buckner Villas in Austin, TX is seeking a Cook to join our retirement community. You will prepare meals using Buckner Villas recipes, ensure quality, and support serving residents with attractive, nutritious dishes.

Responsibilities include menu planning, ingredient selection, portion control, and safe food handling. A high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience are required; English proficiency is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year related experience.
• Knowledge of food prep, ingredients, recipes, and equipment for dining facilities serving at least 25 people.
• Ability to understand and follow basic written and oral instructions.
• Proficient in English: speaking, reading and writing.
• Ability to communicate verbally with residents, families and staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food items using Buckner Villas recipes and meet quality standards.
• Prepare meals based on menus; select ingredients and supplies.
• Cook breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner per standard recipes.
• Monitor quality of food for taste, smell, appearance, and temperature.
• Prepare meals cost-effectively and safely; manage substitutions with supervisor approval.
• Maintain meal counts and records; monitor leftovers and utilization.
• Maintain food inventories and complete requisitions.
• Ensure food readiness at meal times according to schedules.
• Conduct temperature checks prior to service; follow food handling techniques.
• Serve according to portion-control guidelines and plate presentation.
