Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Controls Engineer in Hazelwood, MO to support automation upgrades in a growing frozen breakfast facility. The role partners with maintenance on the plant floor to troubleshoot electrical and controls issues, while serving as the technical expert for PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and SCADA systems.

Expect to assist with FAT/SAT and commissioning for new lines. The ideal candidate has 2+ years of manufacturing automation experience, hands-on PLC experience (Rockwell/AB and Siemens), and

Qualifications

• 2+ years manufacturing experience in automated environments.
• Hands-on PLC experience with Rockwell/AB and/or Siemens.
• Experience diagnosing PLC sequences and faults on the plant floor.
• Experience with 480V motors, wiring, and troubleshooting.
• Experience installing/configuring VFDs and servo drives.
• Ability to integrate PLCs into new and existing automation systems.
• Site lead for contractors on controls projects without full PM duties.
• Strong understanding of controls in high-throughput production (food/auto/chemical/pharma).
• Willing to be on call for remote diagnostics off-shifts.
• On-site work 100% with substantial floor time (≥50%).

Responsibilities

• Work on the manufacturing floor with maintenance to troubleshoot electrical and controls issues.
• Diagnose PLC programs/sequences (Rockwell/AB and Siemens) and implement fixes.
• Be the technical expert for plant automation systems (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, SCADA).
• Review vendor programs for new equipment and perform root-cause analysis.
• Contribute to capex scope with controls/automation input.
• Lead contractors on controls tasks without owning full project management.
• Integrate PLCs into new and existing automation networks.
