Job summary

The American Youth Foundation seeks an Assistant Health Officer to support camp health services alongside registered nurses. The role includes supervising medication administration, providing care to campers and staff, and participating in two weeks of paid staff training before two three-week summer sessions.

Housing and meals are provided. Staff live onsite during training and sessions, with weekend and evening coverage to respond to emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

• Current certification in first aid and CPR.
• Minimum age: 21 years.
• Experience with children, adolescents, and/or young adults.
• Ability to respond to emergencies.
• Ability to lift and assist youth and adults.
• Strong emotional and mental health; good judgement.
• Support AYF mission with integrity and accountability.
• Interact well with diverse individuals and groups.

Responsibilities

• Participate in Health Center operations and treatment of campers and staff.
• Communicate camper issues to Lead Health Officer within 24 hours.
• Provide overnight supervision and nighttime first response.
• Document admissions, care, treatments, and medications.
• Participate in staff training on Health Center procedures and care.
• Collaborate with Health team on daily/weekly responsibilities.
• Ensure first aid kits are stocked and prepared for trips.
• Implement communicable disease protocols and onsite testing.
• Assist in camper medication administration and documentation.
• Provide written feedback for the end-of-season report.
