Sheridan Sch Dist 48J in Sheridan, Oregon seeks an Online Special Education Teacher to support K-12 students remotely, conduct virtual meetings, and provide synchronous and asynchronous specialized instruction while partnering with parents and staff.
This role requires an Oregon Teaching License with Special Education endorsement, a Bachelor's degree, and the ability to work independently in a home office, using Zoom/Google Meet and Google Workspace to deliver accessible lessons.

A special education teacher in an online school must be able to successfully work remotely with students and parents by conducting virtual meetings, providing both synchronous and asynchronous specialized online instruction, and communicating with parents and other staff members about special education services. An unconditional commitment to the success of students is necessary. The ability to motivate students in a distance learning environment and the willingness to be flexible and help them become self-disciplined and effective time managers is required. Our special education teachers must be computer literate so they can focus more on student learning than on the tools of instruction. Patience and an aptitude for technical troubleshooting are required. Special education teachers must feel comfortable working in a student-centered setting and utilize effective techniques for this environment. Teachers must have a strong ability to develop relationships and communicate clearly with students and parents.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit in front of a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees can expect to be driving at least three days a week for home visits, meetings, conferences, and other duties. The position requires the individual to interact with the public and other staff.

Completion of coursework satisfying the requirement for issuance of a valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement in the designated assignment.
Demonstrated ability to teach students to be successful learners through student teacher, internship or temporary/regular teaching experience.
A valid Oregon Teaching Certificate.
This is an online position. The majority of work will be done from the home office. However, the applicant can expect to spend some days at the main office in Sheridan, Oregon and participate in-person at specific professional development activities.
