Job summary

National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) invites applications for an experienced Software Engineering Group Lead to supervise a software staff and guide technical direction for data acquisition, scheduling, and observation preparation tools across NRAO facilities.

You will manage a distributed team, coordinate development activities, and coordinate with scientists, systems engineers, and project stakeholders to deliver reliable software infrastructure and interoperable systems.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, physics, astronomy, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
• At least seven years of software development experience and three or more years of supervising a software team of three or more people.

Responsibilities

• Oversee data acquisition software systems, scheduling systems, observation preparation tools, and software system integration.
• Lead planning, task assignment, progress tracking, and release management across the group.
• Represent the team in reviews with NRAO, collaborators, and stakeholders, ensuring timely, high-quality software delivery.
