Job summary

The Plant Sciences Department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks a Lecturer or Teaching Assistant Professor for a 9-month appointment to deliver coursework that complements the online PLSC curriculum. The candidate will collaborate with faculty, the department head, and advisors to advance online programming and instructional innovation.

Responsibilities include teaching up to 12 credits per semester, mentoring students, and aiding in developing an online degree and online minor.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Plant Sciences, Horticulture, or a closely related field is required by the time of hire for appointment as a Lecturer.
Ph.D. or other terminal degree by hire for Teaching Assistant Professor.
Strong communication skills and ability to integrate information technology into course delivery.

Responsibilities

Teach up to 12 credit hours per semester in the PLSC curriculum.
Promote online programming, enrollment and visibility of the PLSC program.
Support development and modernization of departmental curriculum, including the online minor.
Mentor undergraduates and support student development.
Contribute to development of a national online Plant Sciences degree program through scholarly activities and innovative teaching methods.
Meet regularly with the Office of Digital Learning.
Serve as liaison to the Office of Digital Learning and Vols Online.
Record online lectures with UTK Learning Digital Studio.
