UCLA Extension is seeking an instructor to teach General Chemistry for Life Scientists and related courses in a Pre-Med/General Sciences track. The role involves updating syllabi, delivering course materials, communicating objectives, and assessing student learning using Canvas LMS.

Qualified applicants will hold a master’s or doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, with teaching experience and a commitment to high academic standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a master's or doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field.
• Commitment to maintaining high academic standards and integrity.
• Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
• Highly effective interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in instructional technology and online learning; familiarity with Canvas LMS.

Responsibilities

• Update course syllabus in consultation with the Program Director following approved templates.
• Prepare and deliver course materials and assessments in assigned format.
• Communicate teaching objectives and outcomes and review grading policies with students.
• Provide timely feedback on assessments and post scores on Canvas LMS within timelines.
• Evaluate student achievement and assign grades; post final grades within 2 weeks of last class.
• Respond to student inquiries and coordinate with Program Director as needed.
• Utilize Canvas LMS as the platform for online courses.
• Maintain access to final exams/papers for up to 13 weeks after the last class session.
• Complete required administrative tasks including hiring paperwork and syllabi updates.
