Job summary

Trinityhealth is seeking a Per Diem Oncology RN for our Cancer Center in Fort Lauderdale. The RN will provide professional outpatient care, assess patients, coordinate treatments, educate patients and families, and support the care team in a fast-paced oncologic setting.

Responsibilities include comprehensive assessments, symptom management, triage of calls, documentation in Epic, and collaboration with physicians and pharmacists to implement care plans.

Qualifications

• Education: ADN or BSN from an accredited program.
• Licensure: Active RN license in Florida (or compact license).
• Certifications: BLS from AHA; ONS chemo cert preferred or required for infusion duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, evaluating symptoms and treatment side effects.
• Monitor patients during treatment and coordinate care as needed.
• Triage calls and messages, providing clinical guidance and coordinating care.
• Educate patients and caregivers on diagnosis, treatment plans and symptom management.
• Coordinate testing, referrals and follow-ups; support survivorship and palliative care when appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, safety and infection control standards.

Description:

We are looking for a Per Diem RN for our Cancer Center who is available a minimum of 3-days during the week (M-F) to work a 8-10 hour day shift.

Purpose:

The Per Diem Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to oncology patients in an outpatient medical oncology practice. This role supports physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering high-quality, compassionate patient care, including assessment, treatment coordination, patient education, and symptom management

What you will do:

Patient Care & Clinical Support

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including evaluation of symptoms, treatment side effects, and overall health status.
• Monitor patients throughout treatment and identify changes requiring clinical intervention.
• Triage patient phone calls and electronic messages, providing clinical guidance and coordinating care as appropriate.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (Epic).

Patient Education

• Educate patients and caregivers regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, side effects, symptom management, and supportive care resources.
• Reinforce treatment adherence and follow-up recommendations.
• Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families throughout the cancer care journey.

Care Coordination

• Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, authorizations, and follow-up appointments as needed.
• Facilitate communication among members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Assist with survivorship, palliative care, and supportive care initiatives when appropriate.

Quality & Compliance

• Adhere to all state, federal, OSHA, HIPAA, and oncology-specific regulations and standards.
• Maintain compliance with oncology nursing best practices, safety protocols, and infection prevention standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits as needed.
• Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous medications.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN).
• Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida (or compact license where applicable).
• Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA); Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) credentials/chemotherapy certification preferred or required depending on direct infusion duties.
