Job summary

Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida is hiring a registered pharmacy technician to support pharmacists and patient care. You will handle refill requests, process prescriptions, and assist in medication preparation under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Ideal candidates will have current RPhT licensure, experience with unit dose and pharmacy systems, and the ability to work in a fast-paced oncology setting. A four-month onsite training program is provided before assuming full duties.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program or licensure eligibility per Florida Statutes.
• Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) required.
• Minimum 2 years as an RPhT with experience in unit dose, pharmacy orders, inventory systems, and investigational/REM S meds.
• Must complete hazardous compounding competency within 120 days from hire/transfer.

Summary

A registered pharmacy technician is someone other than a licensed pharmacist or pharmacy intern that performs pharmacy tasks and duties as delegated by a licensed pharmacist that do not fall within the purview of Florida Statue 465.003(13). All such delegated acts will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist who is responsible for all such acts performed by persons under his or her supervision as outlined in Florida Statue 465.014. These supervised tasks and duties include but are not limited to: initiating or receiving communications with patient, provider, and/or team members to facilitate patient care for: refill authorization requests, assisting in patient appointment review, medical records review, insurance authorization review, processing of prescriptions, including investigational medications utilized in clinical trials in compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and/or medications associated with Risk Evaluation Mitigation Strategies (REMS). The Registered Pharmacy technician may also assist with compounding, preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical and investigational medications following USP standards and hospital policy, inventory stewardship, maintains records and creates reports required by law, and processing of documents required by the hospital. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for this position but do not have prior experience compounding hazardous and non-hazardous sterile preparations are encouraged to apply. Selected candidates will be provided with a robust comprehensive four-month onsite training program designed to develop knowledge and skills necessary for sterile compounding. Continued employment in this role is contingent upon the successful completion of the training program and demonstration of competency in hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding at the conclusion of the four-month training period.

Minimum Required Credentials

• High School Diploma/GED
• Must have graduated from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program or have experience that qualifies them for licensure as outlined in Florida Statutes, Section 465.014
• Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT)
• 2 years as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) with a minimum of 2 years’ experience with any combination of the following (1 year if Moffitt team member): internal experience may include the Moffitt Pharmacy Technician Trainee non-licensed experience) Unit dose, Pharmacy orders and inventory computer systems, and/or Investigational or REMS medication management and Pharmacy automation software systems, equipment and electronic health records (EHR) and Preparation of sterile intravenous medications, which may include hazardous and/or investigational medications used for the treatment of cancer with competent understanding of current USP clean room practices and GCP guidelines and/or inventory management of investigational/controlled/specialty medications
• Must successfully complete hazardous compounding competency assessment within 120 days from date of hire/ transfer.

• Associate's degree includes but not limited to: Pharmacy Management, Business, Medical Assisting, Communication, Health Information Technology, Accounting, Finance
• Hazardous Drug Management Certificate Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT)
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

Training Required

• Microsoft Office Professional programs, Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, etc.
• Pharmacy automation software and equipment and pharmacy wholesaler systems
• Effective processing, interdepartmental coordination, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and delegation with follow up skills.
• Ability to follow oral/written instructions and communicate effectively in English.

Salary Range

$21.65 - $33.05

Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among Team Members in similar positions.
