Job summary

Northwestern Medicine in Illinois is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Oncology, Day shift, full-time. Under the supervision of an RN you will perform basic nursing care, monitor vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, and help manage unit flow and census.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• CNA, CMA, EMT, or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Preferred: Graduate of an accredited CNA program or Phlebotomy course.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs and taking blood glucose measurements.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living including bathing, grooming, and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking under stress.
• Prioritizes unit work in coordination with the charge RN or manager.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers calls and communicates information to staff, family, or patient.
• Manages overall unit workflow as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge, and census lists.
