Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Nurse Manager to oversee the 24‑hour operation of a designated unit, supervise nursing staff, and ensure adherence to nursing standards. The role includes financial management responsibilities and collaboration with the Program Director and Education Department.

The ideal candidate will have a BSN, 5 years on a hospital unit, and 2–3 years of management experience, with CT RN licensure and oncology experience or certifications preferred within 6 months.

Qualifications

• BSN required.
• Five (5) years on a hospital nursing unit.
• Two (2) to three (3) years of management preferred.
• RN licensed in the State of Connecticut.
• Experience in Oncology and related certifications preferred within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Lead the nursing care unit, planning models of care to deliver safe patient care within Nursing Standards.
• Develop nursing staff on the unit through education programs with the Education Department.
• Maintain quality of staff work and unit management; participate in yearly goals and bi‑yearly evaluations.
• Participate in annual budget development with the Program Director for cost‑effective unit management.
• Promote teamwork and collaboration across staff and departments.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and fiscal responsibility.
• Foster open communication and listening to others’ opinions.
• Treat patients, visitors, and staff with courtesy and respect while maintaining privacy.

This responsibility includes the supervision, direction, and support of the nursing staff, as well as adherence to nursing standards. The nurse manager is accountable for financial management.

Responsibilities

• Lead the activities of the nursing care unit, planning models of care to deliver optimal and safe patient care while meeting Nursing Standards.
• Facilitate development of nursing staff on the unit, identifying knowledge or practice deficits through observation and collaborating with the Education Department to provide educational programs.
• Maintain quality of staff work and unit management, involving staff in developing and meeting yearly goals aligned with the hospital mission, with bi‑yearly evaluations.

Qualifications

Education

BSN required.

Experience

Five (5) years on a hospital nursing unit, with two (2) to three (3) years of management preferred.

Licensure

RN licensed in the State of Connecticut.

Serves as a resource in medical/surgical nursing scope, interacting with patient‑centered care teams, patients, families, and YNHH System. Professionalism with staff and other hospital personnel. Physical Demand

Standing, walking, frequently pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting, and working in awkward positions. Able to help lift objects and patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds. Moderate stress from coordinating and supervising unit staff. Exposure to infectious diseases/blood/body fluids, physical, mental, and emotional illness, end‑of‑life conditions, and death. Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care.

Additional Information

Experience in Oncology, ONS Chemo Bio certification, OCN within 6 months.
