Job summary

The Ohio State University’s James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for the Oncology lab. The role involves performing automated and manual tests, reporting results, and supporting 24/7 lab operations in a high‑volume oncology environment.

The candidate will maintain quality control, work with the lab information system, and collaborate with medical staff under the supervision of the lab manager and lead technologists.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, or biological science with Medical Technician certification.
• Must obtain Medical Technology certification within one year from date of hire.
• Meets mandatory hospital education and health surveillance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine automated and manual procedures and verifies reports.
• Handles phone inquires regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency.
• Uses laboratory information systems to review reports and call critical values to healthcare professionals.
• Performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation.
• Works under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s).
