Job summary

Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our Oncology Department. This role focuses on cancer diagnostics, chemotherapy administration, patient monitoring, and client education within a specialty hospital.

This position offers a sign-on bonus up to $5,000, relocation assistance, a 4-day work week (10-hour shifts), Tuesday–Friday, no overnights, and opportunities for VTS certification.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT) required or eligible for licensure.
• VTS preferred but not required.
• Experience in veterinary oncology, specialty medicine, ER, or internal medicine preferred.
• Experience with chemotherapy administration or critical care nursing is a plus.
• Strong patient monitoring and clinical assessment skills.
• Excellent communication and client education abilities.
• Ability to work in a collaborative specialty hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with oncology diagnostics and cancer staging procedures.
• Prepare, calculate, and administer chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments following strict safety protocol.
• Monitor patients during and after chemotherapy infusions.
• Support advanced diagnostics including imaging, biopsies, and cytology.
• Provide advanced nursing care for oncology patients, including pain management and supportive therapies.
• Monitor and document patient responses to chemotherapy and medical treatments.
• Educate clients on chemotherapy protocols, potential side effects, home care, and follow-up schedules.
• Partner with veterinarians to ensure clear and empathetic communication throughout treatment plans.
• Collaborate with Oncology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Emergency teams.
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.
• Maintain oncology treatment areas and PPE protocols.
