Job summary

Deaconess in the Newburgh, NY area seeks a compassionate Pharmacist to join our oncology and infusion center team, ensuring safe implementation and monitoring of treatment plans for patients. The role includes supervising the preparation and dispensing of sterile, hazardous and non-hazardous drug admixtures in a hospital setting.

Requires a BS or PharmD from an accredited school and licensure; experience in oncology/is preferred but not required for infusion staff.

Qualifications

• Requires a BS or PharmD degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
• Experience in oncology and infusion center care is preferred but not required for infusion center staff pharmacists.
• Experience in hospital pharmacy preferred but is not required for clinical hospital Staff Pharmacists.
• Experience in oncology preferred but is not required for Staff Pharmacists working in outpatient dispensing areas.
• Must be licensed or qualify for license in Indiana AND Kentucky.
• Must not have any records or convictions involving any form of chemical dependency, felony, or any adverse actions pending by any Board of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Work with oncology providers and infusion center staff to ensure safe implementation, use and monitoring of treatment plans for patients.
• Supervise and participate in the preparation and dispensing of sterile, hazardous and non-hazardous drug admixtures.
• Assures department compliance with regulatory standards (ASHP, HFAP, OSHA, ISBOP, ISDOH, FDA, DEA, USP, EPA).
• Contributes to quality improvement by participating on teams and identifying cost-saving improvement strategies.
• Preceptor for students or residents and training new staff to support daily operations.

Job Overview

• Work with oncology providers and infusion center staff as a member of the team to ensure safe implementation, use and monitoring of treatment plans for patients.
• Supervise and participate in the preparation and dispensing of sterile, hazardous and non-hazardous drug admixtures.
• Assures personal and departmental compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards including ASHP, HFAP, OSHA, ISBOP, ISDOH, FDA, DEA, USP and EPA.
• Contributes to the quality improvement of the department and /or organization by: Participating on a quality improvement teams; Identifying improvement strategies for the department/organization, including potential cost savings.
• Contributes to the development of health care professionals or consumers by writing pharmacy newsletters, providing a pharmacy staff competency program, providing a lecture, inservice or presentation annually, conducting a P&T presentation and/or volunteering for a community benefit program.
• Contributes to the performance improvement of the department by: Acting as a preceptor for students or residents as qualified, and/or Training new staff. Contributes to the financial development of the department and/or organization.
• Demonstrates immediate oversight and training to technician staff to accomplish the daily operations of the department.

Pharmacy Services and Technology

The Pharmacy provides 24/365 access to pharmacist and pharmacy services. Technology plays an important role in the distribution process within Deaconess. The department strives to provide the most up-to-date equipment to ensure patient and staff safety. Medication distribution uses a combination of centralized and decentralized automation, bar code medication administration and smart pump technology. Patient information is managed through EPIC for both in and outpatients to create a complete medical record. The Pharmacy supports a decentralized patient-centered, integrated model. Ambulatory Pharmacists work 100% of their time in a clinical role.

What You Will Need

• Requires a BS or PharmD degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
• Experience in oncology and infusion center care is preferred but not required for infusion center staff pharmacists.
• Experience in hospital pharmacy preferred but is not required for clinical hospital Staff Pharmacists.
• Experience in oncology preferred but is not required for Staff Pharmacists working in outpatient dispensing areas.
• Must be licensed or qualify for license in Indiana AND Kentucky. Employment is contingent upon eligibility and completion of licensure within 45 days of employment.
• Must not have any records or convictions involving any form of chemical dependency, felony, or any adverse actions pending by any Board of Pharmacy.
