Job summary

Minnesota Oncology is seeking a Genetics Counselor to provide counseling for individuals with a family history of cancer and to develop risk assessments using genetic data. You will collaborate with physicians and clinicians to coordinate testing and reporting of results.

Experience in oncology genetics and board certification (or eligibility) is preferred. This role emphasizes patient education, follow-up care, and participation in cancer genetics research within a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Medical Genetics/Counseling with clinical experience from an accredited program.
• Minimum five years as a practicing genetics counselor preferred, oncology experience preferred.
• Board certified (or eligibility) from ABGC or ABMG.

Responsibilities

• Provide genetic counseling to individuals with a family history of cancer and explain risk factors and inheritance.
• Collect medical and family history from patients via interviews, records, and clinicians.
• Develop detailed models to analyze inheritance patterns and report cancer risks.
• Coordinate genetic testing, obtain insurance authorizations and referrals.
• Provide long-term follow-up and assist in patient referrals.
• Maintain patient education resources and participate in community outreach.
• Recruit patients for cancer genetics research studies and obtain informed consent.
