Job summary

Johnson & Johnson's Global Oncology Internship Program invites undergraduates and graduates to join a collaborative team in Spring House, PA, to work on discovery science projects. The internship position is a full-time opportunity expecting to last approximately 12 weeks (May 10th - August 13th, 2027). We work on a \"hybrid model\" if you are NOT lab based. This means that you will be asked to report on site three times a week and can work remotely twice a week. As a summer intern in the Oncology Discovery Scientist role, you will be a member of a team dedicated to the research and development of new therapeutics. The selected candidates will be assigned a mentor and will get an opportunity to work with the oncology teams. Interns will be expected to present their work to their project teams, the Oncology Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and are required to present their primary research project as a poster/abstract at the annual global summer intern research symposium towards the end of the internship. The goal of this internship program is to provide undergraduate and graduate students experience in working in a large pharmaceutical R&D setting and to gain an understanding of the science and process of novel drug development. The intern will have the opportunity to learn new aspects of disease biology and ways to identify novel therapeutics/drug targets and/or determine the mechanism of action behind emerging drugs. Students will also receive training on the technology platforms (e.g., ELISA, PCR, DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, cell culture, cell-based functional assays, computational approaches such as single-cell RNA-seq analysis) and analytical methods required for their project. Students will receive training on experimental planning and execution, as well as receiving guidance on how to troubleshoot experiments related to their project. This role may involve extensive global team matrix interactions with colleagues from several different disciplines. Responsibilities may include: Experimental design and execution Participating in department and team meetings Participating in cross-functional team meetings Attend \"Bench to Bedside\" Lecture Series to gain knowledge of the drug development process and clinical research Data collection and recording keeping Shadowing key functional roles for learning/development opportunities Assisting with interpretation, reporting, and preparation of oral and written results of product research, in concert with senior discovery team members Review of literature and related new technologies Leadership opportunities on specific internship program activities and/or group projects Abstract/poster preparation and presentation at organization-wide annual research symposium Other projects as assigned Qualifications Legally/permanently authorized to work in the US with no required sponsorships. Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requirements must be communicated at time of application Must be currently enrolled in an accredited University or College program throughout the duration of the internship. Must not be graduating before, during, or after the start or end of the internship program Undergraduate students with completion of a minimum of four semesters at program start or graduate students are eligible Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 which is reflective of all college coursework Students in good standing, working towards the completion of an undergraduate or graduate degrees Must have some experience or pursuing a degree in biology, cell/molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology/immuno-oncology, computational biology, or similar areas of study Graduate students must be pursuing a master's or a PhD degree Self-motivated, future scientist leaders passionate about drug development and clinical research Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or service programs is desired Detailed oriented with good organizational skills Possess strong leadership skills to participate and contribute to internship program initiatives and events Fluent in written and spoken English Great interpersonal, verbal, written communication and presentation skills Ability to lead peers, project teams and present to project and senior leadership teams Enthusiastic, collaborative, able to build relationships and work within global matrixed and cross-functional teams Ability to work on and balance multiple project deliverables Working knowledge and/or experience using Slack, Microsoft suite of business applications/tools including but not limited to Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, Teams, and Word, etc. Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
