Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a Data Abstraction Specialist for the cancer registry. Responsible for capturing patient history, diagnosis, staging, and treatment details in AHN’s registry in line with ACOS CoC and Pennsylvania registry standards.

You will ensure data accuracy, maintain the registry, and support reporting timelines. Epic and Metriq experience preferred; RHIT/RHIA certification beneficial.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in health care or relevant experience.
• 1 year knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, or medical terminology.
• 1 year experience interpreting medical and treatment information.
• ODS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform primary data abstraction for clinical measures and registries with high accuracy.
• Screen disease indices, pathology and radiology reports to identify reportable cancer cases.
• Maintain cancer registry database and assist in reporting to state registries as needed.
• Participate in annual educational opportunities to stay informed of changes.

Assumes direct responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information collected.

• Perform primary data abstraction duties for clinical measures and registries while ensuring high levels of abstraction accuracy and ensure alignment with organizational quality standards. (65%)
• Screening disease indices, pathology reports, radiology reports, and other clinical documents to identify reportable cancer cases. (15%)
• Maintain cancer registry database which may include loading import files, generating and working data status reports in compliance with regulatory requirements and timeframes as well as assisting in reporting to state registries as needed. (10%)
• Participates in educational opportunities annually to stay informed of ongoing changes and updates. (10%)

• Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS).
