Job summary

Medical Oncology Associates of San Diego is seeking an Authorization & Referral Specialist to obtain and manage insurance authorizations and referral approvals for services within MOASD and external providers. The role serves as a liaison between payers, providers, patients, and healthcare organizations to coordinate approvals and support timely care.

You will ensure authorizations are obtained within established timelines, collaborate with care teams, and maintain HIPAA-compliant documentation

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of healthcare authorization, referral coordination, or related revenue cycle experience.
• Experience obtaining both treatment and referral authorizations preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and medical necessity documentation requirements.
• Oncology, infusion, specialty practice, or high-acuity healthcare experience preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or healthcare-related training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and manage authorizations for infusion therapies and other in-office treatments.
• Submit authorization requests to payers and monitor status.
• Coordinate with referring providers, outside facilities, and payer representatives to secure approvals.
• Assist with appeals and reconsiderations when appropriate.
• Document authorization activity in the EMR and ensure timely completion.
