Job summary

GBI Railroad Services is seeking an experienced Backhoe Operator to support railroad construction and maintenance across the Intermountain West. This hourly, full-time role requires operating a backhoe, assisting with on-track equipment, and collaborating with field crews to meet production targets.

Candidates should have at least 1 year of backhoe experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to read plans and communicate effectively with Superintendents.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a backhoe operator; railroad or heavy civil construction preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to understand work instructions and communicate with Superintendents and crew.

Responsibilities

• Operate backhoes and other heavy construction equipment safely and productively.
• Set up equipment and attachments for daily operations.
• Perform pre-start inspections and routine maintenance.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and documentation.
• Grade, excavate, and redistribute earth and ballast; move materials as needed.
• Coordinate movements with crew using signals.
• Locate underground utilities prior to excavation.
• Lead a crew and delegate tasks within scope.
