Job summary

BAE Systems is seeking an Engineer II – System Safety to apply engineering and management principles to optimize safety across a system life cycle. The role involves hazard analyses, safety documentation, and collaboration with engineering teams to meet program requirements.

The position emphasizes learning the System Safety discipline, developing safety programs, and supporting launch and testing activities in a collaborative engineering environment.

Qualifications

• BS degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field plus 2+ years of related experience.
• Higher-level degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• Learn System Safety engineering discipline and concepts.
• Develop knowledge of MIL-STD-882, SSCMAN 91-710, NASA-STD-8719.24 range safety.
• Work with integrated technical team to define architecture for spacecraft/instruments.
• Excellent communication skills to present technical approaches clearly.

Responsibilities

• System Safety engineering and development of MIL-STD-882 compliant safety program plans.
• Review designs, test operations, hazardous procedures to assure safety of personnel and hardware.
• Communicate safety requirements to engineers and users; document safety requirements.
• Evaluate safety of structures, power subsystems, software, and facilities.
• Independently complete safety analyses: PHA, FMEA, fault tree, PRA, hazard analyses.
• Prepare safety documentation and reports for approvals.
• Generate and implement safety standards, work instructions, and guidance.
• Investigate mishap reports and support launch site processing operations.
• Maintain surveillance of testing and handling activities; comply with Move Safe program.
• Maintain regular, predictable work schedule and positive working relationships.
