Job summary

Elite-Recruiting- is seeking a Level One Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for a naval construction project in Newport, Rhode Island. The SSHO will oversee jobsite safety, identify hazards, and support compliance with contract safety requirements and EM 385-1-1.

Key responsibilities include monitoring activities for safety compliance, conducting inspections, coordinating with leadership and subcontractors, reviewing hazard analyses, and maintaining safety records.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30-hour Construction training completed.
• At least five years of continuous construction safety experience.
• At least 24 hours of formal safety training per year.
• Eligible for designation as the SSHO on ENG Form 6282.
• Completion of a 40-hour contract safety awareness course covering EM 385-1-1 content per ANSI/ASSP Z490.1; if not met, complete within 60 days of contract award.

Responsibilities

• Monitor construction activities for compliance with project safety requirements.
• Conduct safety inspections, identify hazards, and verify corrective actions.
• Coordinate with project leadership and subcontractors to address safety concerns.
• Review activity hazard analyses and support implementation of safe work practices.
• Conduct safety briefings and maintain required safety records.
• Serve as the designated SSHO on ENG Form 6282.

Education

OSHA 30-hour Construction training

Five years of continuous construction safety experience

24 hours of formal safety training per year

Eligible for designation as SSHO on ENG Form 6282

40-hour contract safety awareness course per ANSI/ASSP Z490.1
