Job summary

State of South Carolina's Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services is seeking a Probation and Parole Examiner to perform professional duties, investigations, and case work on-site. The role requires a bachelor’s degree with advanced coursework in social or behavioral sciences and experience in probation and parole, with emphasis on pre-parole investigations.

You will compile reports and coordinate with agencies to ensure quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses and experience in probation and parole work.
• Preferred: degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, education, counseling, or related disciplines; or a degree including at least 15 credit hours in these areas.
• Some experience with pre-parole investigations and/or parole examinations.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional probation and parole functions, including Parole Examiner duties and investigations.
• Analyze inmate/applicant records eligible for parole or discretionary release and make recommendations to the Board.
• Compile investigations and case summaries accurately and concisely per policy.
• Maintain contact with agency and community contacts to ensure quality standards.
• Use computer systems to update parole and pardon case summaries.

Education

Bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social/behavioral science courses
