On-Site Mechanical Field Engineer for Data Center Projects

Job summary

Giga Energy Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Field Engineer to keep mechanical construction moving on active data center sites.

You will write and resolve RFIs, chase design intent and code requirements, and own end-to-end change orders while coordinating with the Mechanical Superintendent, design team, and subcontractors. You will read and interpret P&IDs, specs, and equipment schedules, track issues, and ensure paperwork matches field build.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience as a field engineer, project engineer, or similar role on mechanical construction projects.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems including CRAH/CRAC, chillers, piping, and BMS/controls.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical specifications, and equipment schedules.
• Experience writing and managing RFIs and change orders on a construction project.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple items on a fast-moving site.
• Strong written communication skills for documenting issues for design teams and ownership.

Responsibilities

• Identify, write, and track RFIs for mechanical scope with clear documentation of issue, impact, and resolution.
• Drive RFIs to timely closure with design teams and engineers of record; escalate stalled items.
• Review drawings, specs, and P&IDs to spot discrepancies.
• Identify potential change order conditions and document them accurately.
• Prepare change order requests with scope, backup, and cost/schedule impact.
• Coordinate with project controls, PMs, and subcontractors to price and resolve change orders.
• Maintain change order and RFI logs; report status to Mechanical Superintendent and Project Director.
• Support field layout and installation checks to verify work matches drawings and resolutions.
• Coordinate with commissioning/controls teams to reflect RFIs and changes in as-built docs.
• Assist with material takeoffs and procurement tied to approved change orders.
