Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University invites applications for a Materials Research and Development Engineer in the Electronic Materials and Devices Department (EMDD) to advance R&D in growth/deposition, device fabrication, materials characterization, electrical testing, and maintenance.

This on-site role in State College, PA focuses on developing manufacturing processes for next-generation semiconductor materials and devices, with opportunities to collaborate with DoD

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science required.
• 5+ years of relevant R&D experience.
• Experience with vacuum systems and materials growth.
• Knowledge of materials characterization methods.
• Commitment to safety and documentation.
• Ability to communicate clearly and work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Research materials growth and deposition methods.
• Run furnaces and reactors and monitor growth processes.
• Configure furnaces/reactors and hardware for vacuum systems.
• Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Characterize materials and devices with microscopy, spectroscopy, XRD, and electrical testing.
• Collaborate to write proposals and plan budgets with engineers and faculty.
