Job summary

Wellstar Health System is seeking an on-site Hospital Utilization Management Nurse in South Carolina. The role serves as the primary link between the clinical floor and administrative compliance, with in-person collaboration with physicians, patients, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize hospital resources, throughput, length of stay, and reimbursement accuracy.

Qualifications

• BSN or higher required.
• Experience in hospital utilization management or case coordination is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Physician consultation: meet in person with attending/admitting providers to discuss cases where documentation does not support medical necessity or current level of care.
• Medical provider liaison: act as on-site link between attending providers and Physician Advisor for complex determinations.
• Attend daily bedside rounds or bed huddles to provide input on medical necessity and criteria-led care progression.
• Provide consultation on cases admitted through the Emergency Department to assess level of care.
• Perform concurrent reviews using InterQual/MCG criteria and issue notices (e.g., MOON) when required.
• Identify and elevate unnecessary hospital days to management to minimize financial loss.
