Job summary

The University of Kansas is seeking a Student Assistant for the Heavy Metals in Bookbinding Project within KU Libraries' Conservation Services. You will learn and apply methods for recording data, colorimetry readings, and reporting results.

This role is ideal for an advanced undergraduate or graduate student interested in cultural heritage conservation, libraries, and materials science. Expect 12–15 hours/week in two-hour shifts on the Lawrence campus.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Record bookbinding attributes, data, and colorimetry readings in a database and prepare reports.
• Measure books for boxes and create custom housings.
• Manage shelving and workflows within the library.
• Perform digital imaging of bookbindings.
• Contribute blog posts and participate in public-facing events.
