Job summary

Mt. Hood Community College is seeking substitutes for Head Start programs in East Portland, Gresham and surrounding areas. Positions are part-time and may be filled at multiple sites, including classroom and kitchen support roles.

Training and background checks are required, with duties spanning classroom routines, curriculum support, meal preparation, and site maintenance. Substitute staff work under the guidance of regular teachers and site staff, assisting with meals, activities, and daily

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry prior to beginning employment and enrollment must be maintained throughout employment
  • Post-offer fitness for duty evaluation within 30 days of hire (TB screening, health appraisal)
  • Complete required Department of Early Learning and Care licensing within 30 days of hire
  • Must possess or obtain Infant/Child First Aid/CPR certification within 60 days of hire
  • Must possess or obtain Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Assists in carrying out classroom schedule and daily routines as established by the regular classroom staff
  • Assists in implementing a planned classroom curriculum
  • Takes direction from the assigned teacher or other classroom staff
  • Assists in preparing activities, maintaining supplies, and equipment
  • Assists with cleaning and maintenance as required by the site
  • Uses developmentally appropriate guidance following the program policy
  • Prepares food for meals in a safe and sanitary environment following local and CACFP regulations
  • Helps with setting up meals in the classroom and with meal cleanup
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • Ability to carry out oral and written directions, read, write and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the duties to be performed for the position described

  • Bilingual skills in English and another language that meets program and/or community needs
