Job summary

GrayMar Environmental Services, LLC is seeking a Remediation Heavy Equipment Operator to support field projects nationwide from any GrayMar office. The role requires operating heavy machinery safely, travel as needed, and adherence to health and safety policies.

You will work on on-call assignments, with shifts ranging across nights and weekends, and you will contribute to projects involving hazardous soils and remediation, all while upholding our safety-first culture and company values.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years of heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience.
  • 1 year of hazardous materials, contaminated soil, or environmental remediation experience.
  • Valid driver’s license; Class A preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently per safety policies.
  • Handle equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, and skid steers.
  • Maintain equipment and perform routine service and greasing.
  • Load/unload equipment from trailers and support on-site remediation tasks.
  • Follow drug-free workplace and safety program requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

The Remediation Heavy Equipment Operator will safely and efficiently operate heavy machinery associated with environmental service projects for GrayMar clients at field locations. This position is as needed, on-call, and will support our Remediation projects across the country. This role can be based out of any GrayMar field office. This role will include heavy amounts of travel, as needed, along with local work to support the branch's ongoing operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment proficiently, productively, and in compliance with the company operating safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate equipment that may include forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, wheeled and track skid steers, backhoes, compaction equipment, and additional heavy equipment.
  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and always acting in a safe manner.
  • Follow appropriate standard operating procedures as guideline for operating and maintaining company vehicles.
  • Work with hazardous and non-hazardous soils and substances in proper PPE while operating heavy equipment.
  • Grease and maintain equipment.
  • Load and unload heavy equipment on trailers.
  • Participate in a drug-free workplace with a random drug testing program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Schedule
  • This position is on call only, with no guarantees of regularly scheduled work.
  • Requests to support ongoing project work and emergency responses can come in any time 24/7/365.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong work ethic with a safety-first mindset.
  • Ability to work independently or part of a team while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Rough and fine grading.
  • Sloping, benching, and certified compaction.
  • High production truck loading.
Education and Experience Required
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 5 years of heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience.
  • 5 years of experience operating excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and backhoes.
  • One year of previous hazardous materials, contaminated soil, or environmental remediation experience.
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record, commercial class A driver’s license preferred.
  • 40-hr OSHA HAZWOPERwith current 8-hr refresherpreferred.
Other Requirements
  • Must pass drug screening and criminal background check.
  • Safety oriented mindset with the determination to follow all procedures and policies.
  • Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
  • Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
