Job summary

Federal Air Marshals operate within TSA to protect commercial aviation from terrorism and criminal threats, both in flight and on the ground. They must be discreet, physically ready, and capable of independent decision-making in high-pressure environments.

These positions require firearms proficiency, rigorous training, and the ability to travel frequently, with assignments determined by agency needs across domestic and international locations.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible experience or a bachelor's degree or higher, or a qualifying combination of education and experience.
• If education is used to qualify, transcripts may be required.

Responsibilities

• Protect commercial passenger flights from terrorist activity, aircraft piracy, and other threats.
• Work discreetly aboard domestic and international flights.
• Assess developing situations and respond with limited backup.
• Carry a firearm and maintain firearms proficiency for federal duties.
• Conduct law enforcement, investigative, analytical, and advisory activities.
• Identify and interview witnesses or suspects when required.
• Make arrests and seek/execute warrants within authority.
• Participate in multi-agency operations with federal, state, and local partners.
• Support ground-based security and counterterrorism missions.
• Perform other specialized assignments, including Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems operations.
